Sissy was found as a stray in Riverside County. Her microchip identified owners, who declined to claim her, stating that she always ran away during fireworks. She was covered in foxtails and as a result had to be shaved so they could be removed. When her owners declined to claim her, the shelter immediately put her on its Red list, meaning she could be euthanized at any time, for "medical issues." Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network pleaded with the shelter to give networkers time to save her. Shamrock stepped forward and got her out of the shelter and to the vet. Despite all the foxtails, the only medical care Sissy required was a dental cleaning and the removal of one tooth. We suspect she was an outdoor-only dog because she is very uncertain in new circumstances and because of the claim that she ran away during fireworks. Her first night with her fosters, she was nervous, pacing and whining. But she is warming up, eating and taking medication for some arthritis and enjoying walks. Sissy is a sweet little girl who deserves love, comfort, and a warm home in which to spend her days. She's not much of a hiker but will take leisurely walks and enjoy lounging with you. Because of her fear of noises, she must have a yard with a solid, secure 8-foot or higher fence and people who will keep her indoors and keep an eye on her when she does go outdoors.
